After a long waiting, Apichatpong Weerjasethakuls Worldly Desires, will open to local audiences this week at the 9th Thai Short Film and Video Festival. The film will be screened along with the other two shorts, Haze by Japanese director Shinya Tsukamato and Magician (s) by Korean director Song Il -gon. All were supported under the Jeonju International Film Festival-commissioned Digital Short Films Three filmmakers omnibus project.

Shot with digital video, Worldly Desires tells the story of a couple who escapes their family to look for a spiritual tree in the jungle. Pimpaka Towira, a female director in Thailand, appeared in the movie as a filmmaker who makes her movie.

Worldly Desires is set for two screenings at 1700 pm this Saturday 6 th August and next Sunday 14 August. The director will also give a talk on experimental film on this Saturday at 1500 pm, prior to the screening. Ticket costs Bt 100, with the donation to National Film Archive.

Besides Worldly Desires, other screenings will include shorts-in-competition, ASEAN films, children-made shorts, Southern voices, women films, as well as two special Digital Momentum and Egg Films project. Digital Momentum is the collection of both shorts and features made by independent filmmakers, including Sugarless by former shorts awardwinner Pattana Jirawong, and The Ordinary Romance by Theekhadej Wacharathanin, sound recorder for Apichatpongs Mysterious Objects at Noon and Blissfully Yours.
