ไม่มีหนังไทยร่วมฉลองเทศกาลหนังเบอร์ลินในวาระครบรอบ 60 ปี  แต่ในโอกาสที่มีกิจกรรมอันน้อยนิดนี้  มีคนทำหนังไทยร่วมฉลองอะไรเล็ก ๆ น้อย ๆ โดยได้รับการเชื้อเชิญจากทางเทศกาลดังนี้

อาทิตย์ อัสสรัตน์ ได้รับการคัดเลือกเป็น 1 ใน 12 ผู้กำกับ  เพื่อคัดเลือกหนังที่เคยฉายในส่วน “International Forum of New Cinema ตลอด 40 ปีที่ผ่านมา  ซึ่งเขาเห็นว่าสมควรที่จะนำมาฉลอง  การคัดเลือกจะต้องเป็นความคิดเห็นส่วนตัว  คาดไม่ถึง  โดยมีข้อจำกัดเพียงอย่างเดียวว่า  ผู้กำกับที่มาร่วมจะต้องเป็นตัวแทนประจำทศวรรษ  ซึ่งสำหรับยุค 2000 นี้ก็คือ อาทิตย์ อัสสรัตน์ เป็นหนึ่งในสาม

อาทิตย์เลือกภาพยนตร์เรื่อง George Washington by David Gordon Green จากสหรัฐอเมริกา  เป็นหนังปี 2000 กำกับโดย เดวิด กอร์ดอน กรีน

George Washington เป็นเรื่องราวของเยาวชนกลุ่มหนึ่งที่กำลังตกอยู่ในช่วงสับสนของชีวิต แยกไม่ถูกระหว่างความไร้เดียงสาหรือการค้นหาตัวตน   นาเซียทิ้งแฟนเก่า เพื่อไปหาจอร์จ ผู้มีความใฝ่ฝันอยากเป็นประธานาธิบดี พวกเขาใช้ชีวิตไปวัน ๆ ในเมืองเล็ก ๆ ที่ถูกตัดจากความก้าวหน้า หนังเล่าผ่านสายตาของเด็กสาววัยสิบเอ็ดขวบ นาเซีย และใช้นักแสดงสมัครเล่นในเมืองที่พวกเขาเติบโตขึ้นมา

(Told from the perspective of an 11-year-old girl, Nasia, and filmed with amateur actors in the place where they grow up, "George Washington" tells the story of a handful of youths caught in the unconscious sphere between childlike naivety and the search for orientation. Nasia leaves her boyfriend Buddy for George, who dreams of one day becoming President of the United States. Their days are spent hanging out in the deserted marshaling yard of a small town cut off from progress. With great sensitivity, Green takes the desperation of his young protagonists seriously while at the same time striking a fine balance between pathos and comedy in his portrayal of their large and small gestures.)
