Thai Film Market in Cannes

     The Federation of National      Producers of Thailand Booth      

No Thai film are in competition for any of the awards at Cannes this year, which is disappointing for the many Thai people attending the event. As such, most of them remained at the film market (or sneaked outside Cannes for shopping).

Clearly visible as I enter the film market was the banner for the upcoming Thai film The Tiger Blade from the newly established Mono Film production studio. Just a few steps away were the Thai film distributors—National Film Association to the left, Fivestar Production and CM Film to the right, and GTH Company nearby. Also represented was the video retailer Mangpong with Rahtree Returns (2005) as its main attraction.

In short, almost all Thai film studios participated in the film market. Whether or not they managed to strike a deal was another story altogether. It seemed, however, that Thai bystanders outnumbered potential buyers.
