The next edition of the Bangkok International Film Festival is set to be held in September 2008, confirmed the organizers today.
The festival, which in previous years was run by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), will this year be organized by the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand, a private organization uniting members of the Thai film industry from various sectors. The Federation President, Jaruek Kanjaruek, will hold the title of the Festival President and oversee all administrative aspects of the event. The festival will receive a partial financing support from the TAT, as well as various other partners from the public and private sectors.
The artistic direction of the festival will this year be responsible by the Thai Film Directors Association, under the leadership of the Association President, Yongyuth Thongkonthoon.
The festival has appointed 2 core staffs to be in charge of running the day-to-day aspects of the festivals programming department including film selection, programming management, industry relations, screening & operations: Pimpaka Towira who held the position of Programming Director for the 2001 Bangkok Film Festival, organized by The Nation Group and Mai Meksawan who recently worked at the festivals programming and screening offices during 2004-2007. Both will be officially representing the festival at Cannes this year.
The 2008 edition of the festival will showcase approximately 100 films from around the world, with 3 competition sections and a number of sidebar programmes. Running concurrently with the festival will also be several seminars and workshops as well as special event.
